Ever Wondered??

Have you ever wondered about the fluoride levels in your drinking water? Why do we need fluoride anyway?

Dr. Matheson provides fluoride treatments and recommends finding out the fluoride levels in your water because proper amounts of fluoride can help fortify tooth enamel, strengthen developing teeth, and help reduce tooth sensitivity. However, excessive amounts of fluoride can be toxic. This is why checking the fluoride levels in your drinking water is so important.

According to utah.health.gov, "Optimal fluoride levels recommended by the U.S. Public Health Service and CDC for drinking water range from 0.7 parts per million (ppm) for warmer climates to 1.2 ppm for cooler climates to account for the tendency for people to drink more water in warmer climates."

To find out about your drinking water, simply visit www.health.utah.gov/oralhealth and click on My water's fluoride. You can also click here to be led directly to the CDC's interactive map.

I don't think that I have ever checked the fluoride levels in my tap water. I should probably check it to make sure that it is at a safe level. I never knew that it was potentially toxic, but it is good to know that you usually don't get a lot of it anyways.

This is something I think about often actually. I would really like to know how much fluoride is in the water I drink. I know that this can change depending on what area you live in. I've also heard it's important to be aware of how much fluoride you are taking in, so that you don't get too much.
